PLAGUE OF CARCOSA “Rats In The Walls” Single Review & Stream

Chicago-based Plague Of Carcosa recently submitted a new single to us for checking out, one titledRats In The Walls“. This is my initial introduction to the band and what a howdy it is!

Evidently, Plague Of Carcosa has been issuing material on a regular basis, this is their latest and it is abrasive AF. All in a good way though, of course, as the band is an instrumental unit and they are not kidding around in the least. This song – recorded and mixed by Andy at Bricktop Recording in Chicago, IL, then mastered at Comatose Studio by Dennis Pleckham of Bongripper – is a throttling avalanche of heaviness.

With skeletal-rumbling density derived from downtuned guitars emitting fuzzy, dissonant riffs, this is a foreboding transmission. Those guitars navigate a course of winding rhythms and thunderous drumming, all while pulling you along by the sheer force of the gravity being generated.

The trajectory of things traverses some ever-changing genre terra beneath, as shifting textures, tempos and timing are in constant flux. Clear nods to doom, sludge and drone are evident, while undeniable progressive transitions are occurring.

With a running time just a bit shy of 15 minutes, the quartet within Plague Of Carcosa (Johnny Carcosa – bass, MR – lower guitar, ZG – higher guitar, and JM – drums) render an epic track of sonic severity.

Rats In The Walls” is streaming via the Bandcamp embed below, where it is also currently available here as an NYP (Name Your Price) item.
