THE MON – UFOMAMMUT Member Gets Spiritually Psychedelic With New Project

Article By: Pat ‘Riot’ Whitaker ‡ Edited By: Leanne Ridgeway

UFOMAMMUT’s lead vocalist, bass, and synth player Urlo is branching out into a plane of even darker psychedelia than that created by his home band.

As THE MON, Urlo’s new solo project, he is endeavoring to explore more internally based realms, but ones no less otherworldly than what Urlo is already used to. The music of THE MON appears to be an outlet for self-exploration, a self-help exercise for hallucinogenic heaviness.

In THE MON‘s own words, the goal is “to reach the boundaries of a spiritual soundscape in which the music becomes purification and atonement, a way to bring out to the world inside my soul. The Mon for me is a journey through the mind, and one of personal discovery of the relation between evil and good – that starts from the name The Mon, like “Demon” but also like “the Monk” – to reach landscapes of sound that enable me, and potentially others to enter into the level of consciousness in a cathartic way.”

Check out the second single to surface from THE MON, titled “Relics” below, it follows the previously shared “Souloop” (also streaming). Further information about the album’s release shall be revealed soon, in the coming weeks. It’s expected to arrive sometime later this year. Keep up to date with THE MON via Bandcamp and Facebook.
