There’s psych-rock and then there is psychedelic rock, two totally different genres, or musical styles, very dissimilar to one another.

COCKY BITCHES create and play the latter, psychedelic rock, and do so with inserts of blues and punk rock flare in it. On November 23rd (aka “Black Friday”), the band will issue their full-length début. ‘Mercy‘, via Slope Records.

I assume that, at this point, you are probably asking “Who the hell are Cocky Bitches??!“. Well, it is multi-instrumentalist Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers, Melvins), drummer Sam McCandless (Cold), and vocalist / performance artist, Baroness Formica.

The trio originally formed the band Carny in 2004, which later morphed into the COCKY BITCHES. In 2017, the band released their debut 7-inch ‘TV’s Ok‘, also via Slope Records. You can stream both tracks here: “TV’s Ok” and “I Love Dick“.

The musical output of COCKY BITCHES is as eclectic, and oft-times outright quirky, as it gets. Lysergic guitar emanations, propulsive drumming, and erotically charged vocals meld themselves into some of the most unique music you will hear this year.

Buzz Osborne of Melvins had this to say about things:

I really love that Cocky Bitches record! I love the barbaric nature of some of the songs. It’s like a cool soundtrack for the end of the world. I dig the production a great deal as well. The plodding nature of some of the songs make this an album you can really let flood over you. A soundtrack for a stalking serial killer or the theme for a psychotic rogue cop. The vocals are a treat as well, way cool! I think it’s one of the best things I’ve heard in quite some time. Excellent work!
