THE RODS Return w/ ‘Brotherhood Of Metal’ Album

This news item could have just as easily been the latest segment of our weekly Oldschool Sunday series, for New York-based band THE RODS are an iconic, long-running act.

Active since 1980, the band quickly garnered some interest due to guitarist and vocalist David Rock Feinstein being a former member of the band Elf, with his cousin, Ronnie James Dio. With drummer and vocalist Carl Canedy, and bassist and vocalist Steven Starmer by his side initially, Feinstein and THE RODS were soon paving their own way into the world of heavy metal.

After releasing their introductory first album, ‘Rock Hard‘, in 1980, Starmer left THE RODS, and bassist and vocalist Garry Bordonaro joined the band. This became the most recognized line up within THE RODS, one that released five studio albums (save Bordonaro, who contributed to one song only on 1986’s ‘Heavier Than Thou‘ release) and several EPs before going on hiatus in 1986.

THE RODS wouldn’t return until 2011, but when they did, Feinstein, Canedy, and Bordonaro did so with a ‘Vengeance‘ – the title of that year’s comeback album. That was followed by the 2015 album release, ‘Hollywood‘ (also called ‘Hollywood – Canedy, Feinstein, Bordonaro, & Caudle’), and now here we are in 2019, and with us, THE RODS.

David Feinstein, Carl Canedy, and Garry Bordonaro, the same line up from the band’s cult classic album ‘Wild Dogs‘, announce the next phase of their ongoing legacy. THE RODS will release their ninth full-length album, ‘Brotherhood Of Metal‘, via SPV/Steamhammer on June 7th.
