The world of music is no longer governed by physical constraints or perceived borders in the modern age of technology. If a musician at Point A desires to work with an artist at Point B then real world proximity can basically do nothing to prevent that collaboration from occurring. Take, for instance, the subjects of this article, the NYC / London-based, progressive alt. metal project Ascending Dawn. The band will be re-releasing their full-length début, “Coalesce“, on December 1st. Continue reading “ASCENDING DAWN ‘Coalesce’ Review; New Lyric Video Premiere”→
Stone Temple Pilots (aka STP) have finally revealed the identity of their new vocalist along with a new song featuring him, “Meadow“. He is none other than former X-Factor contestant Jeff Gutt and he, along with Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz really seem to capture the essence of the band’s early sound.
That sound, of course, was delivered by original vocalist Scott Weiland who eventually exited the band and passed away in 2015. STP returned in time with new front man Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) who himself passed away back in July of this year.
According to a press release, “Meadow” will also appear on the band’s new album, due out in spring 2018. In a statement, Stone Temple Pilots’ Dean DeLeo said, “We wanted someone who would not only do our earlier songs justice, but would also write new songs and carve out a different path forward with us. It took some time, but we found our guy.”

It does not end there though for also present are the returning Jason Dana (Bend Sinister, Karen Foster), Brock Macinnis (Anciients, Tobeatic) and Mike Grossnickle (Hashteroid). Canadian hard rock band Freewaysembody every jot and tittle of the tags that get tossed around every day like “retro”, “vintage” or “classic”. While most times such descriptions are used, it’s a half-hearted, lukewarm attempt to identify something using very little imagination. But in this case, they’re all applicable and there is no mistaking the power of Freeways‘ recent EP release. Continue reading “FREEWAYS ‘Cold Front’ EP Review & Stream”→
