VÁLVERA Upcoming ‘Cycle Of Disaster’ Album; Official Videos + Album Teaser [Updated 8/21]

Article by: Leanne Ridgeway

Brutal Records announced their recent roster signing with Brazil’s groove thrash metallists VÁLVERA. Their debut album on Brutal Records is due at the end of this month, August 28th.

Enjoying the abrupt, this band alternates between structures with no warning, in the South American school style. They make sense of their riffs in the context of song structure and in that mindset often dive into a change unpredictably, with a fire of acquisition.

VÁLVERA uses the “ambient” or “atmospheric” thrash riff, a melodic phrase line concluding abruptly in a prolonged resolution to center each riff and create a mesmerizing effect on the listener. Vocals are shouted with an approach of spreading maliciously metal frosting on the songs; they urge transition, shifting directly from a riff to a new thematic that becomes clearly continuous only after transferring through the vocal harmony.

Rolling riffs of fast tunneled tremolo connect songs in a sequence of tone and rhythm, flowing into one another and rejoining on the snap command of circular song structure to begin again the cycle. With a real taste for a coherent but beautiful aesthetic, the music of VÁLVERA moves fluidly, with disjointed song structures rectified by such distinctive riffs and bridges as to make this slightly unique from other bands.

Percussion is accurate and of an intentionally minimalist framework to ensure complete execution. Lyrics are mainly focusing on the history which addresses various catastrophes that happened in Brazil and to its people. Deliberate songwriting with simple implements and intent clarifies into immersive and sensual sound. The VÁLVERAGlow of Death” lyric video below is about Cesium-137 radioactive contamination, the biggest civilian radiation accident in history, that took place in Goiânia (Brazil), in 1987. We also have a promotional full-album teaser video to get a glimpse into the other tracks ahead of its release.
