One of underground thrash metal’s most revered bands, the iconic socio-political power-bashers Sacred Reich have shared some exciting news. After repeated claims fueling doubt that they would record a new album, the band have unveiled an announcement that they have resigned with Metal Blade Records.
The band is currently at work writing material for what will be their sixth album and their first since 1996’s Heal. Of course Sacred Reich released all of their early era studio albums, Ignorance (1987), the Surf Nicaragua EP (1988), The American Way (1990), Independent (1993) and Heal (1996) via Metal Blade. They left the label for a short period, signing to Hollywood Records briefly, but soon returned to the label, as they have now done yet again.
Sacred Reich vocalist and bassist Phil Rind comments: “We are very happy to announce that Sacred Reich have signed with Metal Blade Records and we are writing songs for a new album. Our plan is to go into the studio this summer and have a new record out early next year. We are super excited and can’t wait to share some new music with you!“
In news related to the band, drummer Greg Hall recently exited Sacred Reich under unclear circumstances. He addressed the situation via his personal Facebook page saying:
“So… I want you all to hear this directly from me. I am no longer the drummer for SACRED REICH. I was (rather abruptly and by phone, I might add) fired.
“I won’t go into details at this time; you will hear my story when the time is right. I just want everyone to know how much it has meant to me to play for you! Those moments on stage were some of the greatest times of my life. To be able to see and do the things I have has been an incredible odyssey.
“I don’t know what the future holds for me — none of us do — but I do know you can kick me out but you will not keep me down.“
Sacred Reich had a very triumphant year in 2017 with their highly successful “30 Years Of Ignorance” Tour (marking that album’s 3 decade anniversary) with now-labelmates Byzantine. That was doubled down upon by their fantastic performance as the ’17 edition of Wacken Open Air festival last summer (streaming below).
More to come on any new developments with Sacred Reich.
