SKULL PIT. Just these words alone evoke some intense, macabre images in the mind of someone that hears them.

They also would make a great band name, huh? Well, forget using them because they have already been commandeered for use in the new band, SKULL PIT. The band’s founding members, Exumer’s Mem V. Stein and Church Of Misery’s Tatsu Mikami have corresponded for some years online due to their mutual love and respect for each other’s band. Now they embark on their own joint venture.

That joint venture has found solid footing and will release their 9-song self-titled début via Metal Blade Records on November 16th. Riff Relevant brings you the album artwork, tracklist, pre-order, and more. First, some commentary about their signing with Metal Blade Records.

SKULL PIT stated:

“We are beyond excited to have signed to Metal Blade Records, as they are the original metal merchants since 1982. Our style of music could not find a more fitting home, as Metal Blade is best suited to release our music in terms of tradition, vision and our expression of heavy metal.”

Tracklist:

“Double Cross”
“Roller”
“Fire Breather”
“Year Of The Dog”
“Soul Raiders”
“Blood Titan”
“Marauders”
“The Line”
“Wolf Spirit”
“All The Lessons” (bonus track)

The S/T album can be pre-ordered HERE and is available in the following formats:

– ltd. Digipak-CD
– 180 g black vinyl
– silver/black marbled vinyl (ltd. 200 – EU-exclusive)
– red/black marbled vinyl (ltd. 200 – EU-exclusive)
– gold/black splattered vinyl (ltd. 100 – EU-exclusive)
– gold/silver splattered vinyl (ltd. 100 – US-exclusive)

The music of SKULL PIT is quite different from that of its founders’ other well-known bands. Instead, the new undertaking descended headfirst into exploring their mutually shared love of 70’s hard rock and 80’s NWOBHM. The result is a free-flowing album that switches effortlessly between genres and boundaries, but always with the intent to deliver a razor-sharp riff or a memorable hook.

I suppose you are just dying to hear some of that music about now, huh? Well, Riff Relevant has you covered with the recently shared first official video from SKULL PIT, one for the song “Firebreather“. Check it out below and we will bring further news when it becomes available.

In closing, we will let the last word rest with SKULL PIT‘s Mem V. Stein who comments:

I never thought in 34 years of playing in bands, recording records and touring the world that I would end up recording such a powerful record with someone who literally lives on the other side of the planet. Truly a new world order.
