North Carolina’s The Asound is currently experiencing a mercurial rise within the heavy music underground. The band itself, Chad Wyrick (guitar, vocals), Michael Crump (drums), and Jon Cox (bass), have a string of split releases out and are currently working on a new album.
That album, titled ‘Controller‘, will be issued through Doomsayer Records before year’s end and you can catch my review of their latest Split, with Intercourse, in Part 2 of this feature. Components of The Asound‘s ongoing ascension are being fueled in part by their live performances. They recently enjoyed the opening support slot for The Obsessed’s stop at The Mothlight in Asheville, North Carolina.
Speaking of openings, The Asound will launch the second edition of the Steel & Stone Festival this coming weekend in Asheville as well. They will join Grüzer, Akris, The Shrunken Heads, Horseflesh, Temptations Wings, and Horseburner at The Odditorium on Saturday, October 14th for this year’s installment of the festival.
You can get further details and info at this location.
I traveled over to AVL to catch The Asound‘s date with The Obsessed, my first time catching the crushing trio live. With that live experience and my recent review of their new split 7″ release [check that out here in Part 2] I thought it would be a good time to sit down with the guys and converse.
That’s exactly what we did too, on camera where we discussed the band, their releases, Steel & Stone II, their connection to cult underground icons Seven Foot Spleen and more. I now submit said exchange to you for your viewing enjoyment and suggest you get to Steel & Stone II this weekend if you can.
