The current covid-19 / coronavirus / novel coronavirus / ‘rona / bugstorm (take your pick, just wash your damned hands) pandemic effects have dealt a crushing blow to a majority of the world in many ways, none of them good. Everyone is affected in some way, and many who’ve primarily earned their keep from the music world are hit especially hard.
We’ve started a few things to highlight those bands still trying to get their music to those who seek it. Along with our regular articles and reviews, our new series of ongoing “Gear Assembly” interview articles, as well as random Twitter shoutouts of bands’ Spotify albums, I’m introducing the first batch of “Virally Affected” bands with this article here.
This includes a running list of heavy genre bands impacted by the cancellation of tour dates or release delays, with their social media and merch links, plus an audio stream of one of their recent releases. Some have asked for a little help, some we’ve learned about on our own. The list is in the order of when we became aware of their plight (not alphabetical). The plan is to continue this weekly, until tours and live shows start up again… ideally, this won’t last long. 🙂
There’s also a growing Spotify playlist embedded at the bottom, which includes all the bands listed here, plus many more. It’s a collaborative playlist, so if you are (or know) a heavy genre band who’s had tour dates cancelled or production delays, feel free to add a Spotify song to the playlist. (You need a Spotify account.) Collaborative playlists aren’t always viewable publicly, so follow it!
Hopefully it brings some awareness to the bands and their music. Listen, follow, share, grab merch, or all of the above…
